Sales growth for Argentinian still wine in the UK has bucked a downward trend among the main wine-producing nations, new figures for last year show.

The South American country's exports to the country jumped 34% in value to GBP140.3m (US$176m) in the 52 weeks to the end of 2016, according to IRI figures released by Concha y Toro, which owns the Trivento winery in Mendoza. Argentinian volumes in the UK were also up by 34%, to 2m nine-litre cases.

The strong growth was in contrast to declines for other major still wine producers. Germany was the biggest faller in 2016, down 12% in value, while Spain was next with a 9% drop. The US was down 5% and France declined by 4%.
